The BCHL and College Hockey Inc. are hosting an information seminar Feb. 8 in Coquitlam prior to the Express home game against the Chilliwack Chiefs.
The seminar will be attended by hockey players born from 2007 to 2009, as well as their parents.
Speakers include former NHLer and University of Wisconsin alumnus Kyle Turris, who also played in the BCHL with the Burnaby Express, BCHL Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Steven Cocker, as well as NCAA and BCHL coaches.
“The College Hockey Inc. seminars are an excellent opportunity to give these athletes and their parents as much information as possible as they weigh significant decisions so early in their hockey journey,” said Cocker. “It is important for these families to gain this knowledge while they are at a young age, so they can properly assess which path is the best fit for them and gain a deeper understanding of the life-changing benefits that come with playing at and graduating from an NCAA institution.”
The BCHL currently has 411 alumni playing NCAA Division I college hockey, which makes up 23.41 per cent of all Division I players, as of Oct. 1, 2022. The league also recently announced a new record for Division I committed players in a single season with 174.
In addition, 94 of the 97 current B.C.-born Division I players came through the BCHL.
“College Hockey Inc. is excited to be headed back to British Columbia, home of so many NCAA hockey players both past and present,” said College Hockey Inc. Executive Director Mike Snee. “We look forward to sharing information about the development opportunities available in college, both on the ice and in the classroom, with many aspiring future NCAA hockey players.”
The seminar will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Dogwood Pavilion, across the street from the Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre.
